I happened across West Coast Hammocks by luck – driving past their home base on my Vespa one day, on my way into the city. The display hammock in their front yard caught my eye and I turned around immediately. It was beautiful and big and looked exactly like what I imagined when I imagined the “perfect hammock”. Even though I had been thinking of getting a decent hammock for a while, we had been regularly disappointed with hammocks we had either purchased or been given in the past. Nothing seemed to last our family’s demands – 4 teenagers and a wife who all want to “have a go” and sometimes more than one at a time – for more than a single season, before deteriorating or ripping. My fear was that there really wasn’t a hammock that would suit our needs, in a price range that was within our means.
Anyway, I called the mobile number that was on the sign near the display hammock and expected to be told the hammock I had seen would be somewhere in the $350+ price range. When Keith told me it was under $300 I was very skeptical of the quality. I was told to check out the website and invited to come back to home base and try out some of their stock.
The products on website looked incredible and the range and pricing was hard to believe, and we all know how cheap it is to pay someone to make a swanky website that over promises and under delivers. I needed to see these hammocks in person so I arranged to meet Keith at the home base to see them (and test them for myself). It took me about 5 mins of seeing, feeling, and sitting in to be sold on these hammocks – I walked out with one, and had a couple of the straps thrown in for good measure.
Since then, we have set the hammock up by the pool as well as taking it to Albany with us on a recent christmas holiday. The hammock has regularly had 2 of our teenagers in it at a time, and my wife and I (I’m 100kg and the hammock doesn’t even wince when I come near it!) often sneak outside to grab a few minutes respite from the rest of the family.
All I can say is WOW! Everyone who sees our WCH, and tries it, wants one – especially when they hear the price. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and will probably invest in another one soon too.
